Our Classrooms
San Diego Cooperative Preschool offers nurturing learning environments for children aged 6 months through 5 years old. Our indoor/outdoor classrooms spark imagination with curriculum that is designed to enrich the whole child, including social, emotional, physical, cognitive and creative development.
Infants (6 months- 2 years)
Loving care in a playful environment
Our infant classroom follows the RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers) philosophy. This approach allows our teachers to focus on what matters most: the connection between themselves and the baby in their care. In attuning to your baby, they learn to trust the baby and themselves.
Infants build trust through nurturing relationships with caring teachers. Their environment allows them to build their muscles and coordination while moving around freely in a safe space. At the San Diego Cooperative Preschool, infants can explore objects and begin to make sense of their world. Our teachers interact with your child and offer them enjoyable experiences that lay the foundation for learning.
Toddlers (18 months-3 years)
Learning to socialize
We create strong, positive bonds with your child to help them feel secure and important, allowing them to explore, problem solve, and test ideas through play. Our teachers invite the child to lead, rather than driving teacher- or adult-led activities, and they ask questions that help our toddlers think more deeply about what they’re doing. We will encourage your child to keep trying when they face a challenge, rather than immediately solving it for them.
Preschool 1 (2 and 3 year olds)
Experiencing independence
Teachers support your child as they continue to develop physically, socially, emotionally, verbally and cognitively. Your child will begin to recognize, articulate, and manage their own feelings and behavior as teachers help them build effective communication skills through listening, talking, problem solving, reading and writing, and play.
Preschool 2 (2 1/2 - 4 year olds)
Building communication skills
As your child further develops their thinking skills, our teachers respond by providing interesting materials to use and plenty of time to explore them. They will offer suggestions that encourage more complex play, and ask questions that stretch your child’s imagination and creative problem solving.
Pre-k (3 1/2- 5 year olds)
Getting ready for Kindergarten
As your child is getting ready to transition into Kindergarten they will explore a more complex curriculum allowing them to inquire and investigate. Further development of your child’s cognitive skills will allow them to think more dynamically to make decisions and problem solve.
